Mica (Fine / Medium / Coarse) is a naturally occurring mineral processed into graded flakes
used as a lost circulation and sealing additive. Its plate-like structure helps bridge fractures
and micro-crevices, forming a resilient barrier that reduces fluid loss.
APPLICATION :
Added to water-based and oil-based drilling fluids to control seepage and partial loss zones,
especially in fractured and highly permeable formations. It can be used alone or in combination
with other LCM packages to enhance sealing efficiency.
ADVANTAGES :
Available in fine, medium, and coarse grades for multi-stage bridging.
Chemically inert and thermally stable.
Compatible with most drilling fluid systems.
Reduces torque and drag by improving filter cake quality.
Helps in curing and preventing seepage and partial losses.
Non-toxic and easy to mix at the rig site.
SPECIFICATIONS :
The primary properties of standard Mica F/M/C grades are summarized below.
